What to Expect

Emmanuel Covenant Church (ECC) is an intergenerational family that’s committed to creating a safe place to explore authentic Christianity and a challenging place for those desiring to make Christ’s message and mission their own.

The Shoreview Community Center is easy to find. Simply enter the doors on the upper level and follow the signs. If you have questions or could use assistance, look for a friendly face with an Emmanuel name tag. We’re here to help!

We offer free coffee and yummy treats. If you don’t have a Bible at home, we’d love offer you one as a gift.

ECC is a place where people from different backgrounds find common ground. Our Worship Services draw from the best of the old and the new. Over the course of a month, you’ll learn prayers, hymns, and blessings that are centuries old and experience new forms of expression that the Holy Spirit is inspiring in our day.

Our messages are anchored in Scripture and applicable to life. Over the course of a year, we’ll take you on an intentional discipleship journey that includes both topical and expository teaching (from both the Old and New Testaments). We’ll also join our Christian brothers and sisters around the globe who practice the seasons of Advent and Lent.

At ECC, we don’t duck the hard stuff! Don’t be surprised if you join us on a Sunday when we’re pressing into a difficult Bible Passage or addressing a complex issue that’s on people’s minds. Because we may wade into PG-13 waters, we encourage parents to utilize our incredible ECC Kids and Bridge 45 ministries designed just for them.

FAQ

We do our best, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to follow the example of Jesus and the Apostle Paul. Jesus and Paul modeled both expository and topical teaching.

Sometimes we begin with a Book of the Bible or Portion of Scripture and apply it to our situation (“expository teaching”).

Sometimes we begin with an important question or issue and seek to understand it through the lens of Scripture (“topical teaching”).

Jesus was the Master Teacher and every week we do our best to teach as Jesus taught. We ask questions, we utilize story-telling, we challenge people to respond, and we anchor everything to the Word of God.

We also apply the principles that we see in the Book of Acts, where Paul uses cultural references as a jumping off point for teaching people about Jesus (Acts 17:22-34).

One of the unique characteristics of Emmanuel’s approach to teaching comes from the fact that our Founding Pastor is a trained educator. Over the course of a year, we take people on a journey that’s aligned with specific discipleship goals. Over the course of a teaching series we often point people to books and online resources that they can use to take a deeper dive. Each week we challenge our Teaching Team to craft messages with different learning styles in mind. At Emmanuel, we draw from the best of the old and the new. Over the course of a teaching series, you’ll have the opportunity to sing new songs, vintage hymns, and a few “forgotten favorites” from a couple decades back.

Each week you can count on musical excellence and God-honoring lyrics. You can also count on our worship leaders to direct our focus towards God rather than drawing attention to themselves.

Emmanuel is a place where kids are safe, valued, and known by name. We offer on-site, age-specific Nursery, Kids Church, and Bridge 45 (an experience designed specifically for 4-5 graders).

Our kids love the fun-filled activities that captivate their hearts and minds. Our parents love the personalized attention from qualified and caring leaders.

  • Kids learn about the Bible and learn from the Bible.
  • Kids have the opportunity to take part in special “Big Church” traditions like our annual Palm Sunday Processional and special services like “InterGen August.”
  • Each of our staff and volunteers are carefully screened and trained.
  • We offer fun family events, marriage enrichment opportunities, and parenting seminars throughout the year.

Our services are about 60 minutes in length.

As a guest, you will not be singled out. We do our best to welcome everyone and provide an atmosphere where people can connect and grow at their own pace.

There’s no official dress code at Emmanuel. You won’t feel out of place if you dress up to show reverence or if you wear comfortable clothes that are appropriate for the Community Center where we gather. We want to get to know you. Please be yourself!

Shoreview Community Center

Emmanuel meets in the Shoreview Community Center on Sunday mornings. We’re honored that God opened the doors to such a public and influential meeting space. Enter through the doors from the upper parking lot, and you’ll find ECC members there to welcome you!
